With Isabel Coulton
Who is this course for?
Drawing is a great way to relax and unwind. At Bala Brook you will be transported into a peaceful environment where contemplation of the natural world blends beautifully with learning to mark make and draw.
This course is for anyone who would like to start drawing or maybe improve on their existing skills. It is aimed at complete beginners, through to those that have some experience.
This will be a contemplative and uplifting experience.
During these 3 days, we will walk in the stunning grounds of this moorland retreat, collect, observe and draw our findings. Through many enjoyable exercises you will learn about quick sketches, how to refine your work, how to use shading techniques and composition by looking at landscapes and still life. We will also look at figurative and abstract art techniques.
We will make a folded journal with origami envelope to keep it in, in which you can create a diary of your experience.
Your Tutor, Isabel Coulton
Isabel trained in London at the City and Guilds of London Art school. Her training was in historic wood and stone carving, including medieval techniques of gilding, painting with natural pigments and letter cutting. As a sculptor, Isabel uses all these techniques in her work, underpinning everything with life drawing which she believes is the cornerstone of any art adventure.
Isabel believes that lifelong learning and gaining new skills can create a sense of wellbeing and improved self-esteem and aims to create a relaxed and enjoyable environment for all participants.
A drawing is rarely made from one line. Marks of all kinds join together to make piece of work that is interesting and engaging.
To write a book one has to learn the alphabet, and then to spell. This is followed by making a sentence, and then constructing a paragraph until all the different aspects come together and make a story. And so it is with drawing. Through invigorating and liberating techniques, you will learn to make interesting marks that come together to make exciting artworks.
