Silent Illumination Retreat

10th May to 17th May 2012

This traditional week-long Sesshin will allow the time and space to learn, practice and cultivate Chinese Zen meditation with teachings on Silent Illumination. Simple yet difficult, within this space you may encounter an opening that allows you to come to rest and find freedom, peace and lucidity. Returning to the source on retreat enables effective engagement with everyday life.

Facilitated in a kindly and supportive manner we will present the teaching and methods of Chan Masters Sheng-yen and John Crook, through practice, talks and individual interviews. The format will be that of a full Chan retreat, rising early, with a schedule of meditation, work periods, exercise and daily walks on the moor or in the quiet lanes.

Bala Brook provides a retreat setting with comfortable sleeping accommodation. It is next to an ancient brook that carries the clear, dark waters of Dartmoor down through the pools and rapids created by moss strewn granite boulders.
